Sean is now sailing the New Zealand based class of the Starling. Sean got his boat, One Shade Of Grey, in 2015 at the end of the year. This was the week before Sir Peter Blake which he competed in and got 2nd Overall in the Open fleet. Last year Sean won the Auckland Champs going on to come 3rd at the Nationals. Sean in the 2016-2017 cycle had gone on to win every regatta he has competed in, bar one regatta. At the last Sir Peter Blake, he won the Starling Open. This rolled on to him winning the prestigious award of the Sir Peter Blake Memorial Trophy, which was an empowering milestone in his sailing journey. He has continued his dominate presence in the O’pen Bic at this years World Championship held in Lake Garda, Italy. Sean from the outset sat on top all regatta pulling out a 19 point led to win the Worlds. This means he is now the U17 World Champion which partners his win back in 2012 at the Worlds in Miami, USA.
Since Sean started sailing he has competed in 5 Australian Open Bic Nationals. At Forster northern NSW in 2011, he posted 1st Under 12’s and 7th overall. At Noosa QLD 2012, claimed 1st Under 12’s and 2nd overall. At Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club, Perth-WA, in 2013, finished 1st Under 13’s and 1st overall. At Port Stephens sailing and aquatic club in NSW 2014, placed 3rd overall and 3rd in the Under 16’s. Most recently in 2015, at Sandringham Melbourne, where he got 2nd overall and 2nd in the Under 16’s.
Sean has been part all of the New Zealand Open Bic Nationals held in Big Manly Bay, Whangaporaoa, Auckland. The first nationals in New Zealand were at the end of 2011 and beginning of 2013 placing 1st in the Under 13’s both times and 1st overall in 2013. In early 2014, he finished 1st overall and 1st Under 16’s. Most recently in 2015 he came 1st overall and 1st in the Under 16’s. At the inaugural Open Bic Mid-Winter Cup, he placed 1st Overall and 1st U16’s.
But Sean’s greatest achievement, is 1st in the Under 13’s at the 2012 Open Bic Worlds held in Miami, America.
Sean came 6th in 2014 at the Open Bic Worlds held in Travemünde in Germany the Under 16’s and 2nd in the Under 16’s at Safety Beach in Melbourne Australia.
