The Coastal Classic is one of the highlights for yachting in New Zealand each year. With boats of all different shapes and sizes setting off from the Auckland Harbour on the 119 nautical mile journey to Russell in the Bay Of Islands, it has been a fantastic event to follow over the past couple of years. This year we are set to join the fleet and are on the hunt to get up to Russell very quickly. The crew has their fingers crossed for a strong sou’wester which will allow us to send it up north with fair pace.

We have had some practice sails with the crew in the heavy airs and have reached more than 21 knots running downwind on two sails without a kite. With a team of 10 on board for the race and are eager to be on the starting line ready to put the hammer down to Russell. With our huge pole and kite to suit we’re hoping for a fast ride up the coast getting into Russell before midnight!

We’ll give you an update as to what we can expect on the run up the day before the gun.
